"This Israeli forbids Palestinians from building. He lives in an illegal outpost"
"Meet the inspector who prevents Palestinians in Masafer Yatta from building on their land while living in a home Israel says was built illegally." (972mag 28. juli 2022)

"Dror Etkes, who researches land policy in the West Bank for the NGO Kerem Navot, uncovered a number of cases in which Civil Administration inspectors were themselves in violation of Israeli law.

“This is part of a chain of corruption and decay,” Etkes said, “in which the inspector Avia Hagar, from the illegal outpost Avigayil, is just one link.”

Labour ved Keith Starmer i UK kjører partiet i grøfta vedr fagforeningene

Helt spesiell utvikling i Labour i UK:

 25. juli  i The Guardian:
Den mulig kommende statsminister i UK Liz Truss angriper fagforeningene:
"Liz Truss pledges crackdown on unions but is accused of ‘Tory fantasy’"

29. juli
i The Guardian:
"Sacked shadow minister accuses Keir Starmer of ‘complete car crash"
"Sam Tarry again joins picket line after being removed from Labour frontbench earlier in week."

"Kafr Kasim: Echoes of the massacre Ben-Gurion tried to hide"

"Sixty years after Border Police officers shot dead nearly 50 Arabs, a Jewish civilian recalls how he risked everything to expose the atrocity to his young nation."

SLAPP= Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation

The Guardian 4. mars 2022:
What are Slapps and how are they connected to Russian oligarchs?

UK to clamp down on libel ‘lawfare’ by the rich in English courts

Claimants will have to prove malice, as government seeks to curb ‘Slapps’ that use wealth to deter scrutiny

................................................

"UAE detains U.S. lawyer for Khashoggi on money laundering charges"

Dømt "in absentia" i UAE for hvitvasking av penger.

Det mener kommentator Rafael Behr i The Guardian 11. juli 2022:

"The Uber files tell a simple truth: democracy depends on curbing mercenary tech giants."

Innlegget i the Guardian avsluttes slik:

"The revelation of Uber’s sharp practices tells a simple truth about the tech revolution. It is the same one that is told by the arduous working conditions in an Amazon warehouse and the poisoned reservoirs of public debate where Facebook discharges hatred and misinformation. The cost of innovation might be invisible to the consumer, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. And the job of democratic politicians is to be guardians of public interest, not the lubricants to private gain."

The True Price of Biden’s Mideast Refueling Campaign

Palestinians visit the site where Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed, in the West Bank city of Jenin, in May.

U.S. President Joe Biden’s visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel this week will be overshadowed by the absence of two journalists unable to cover the events: Jamal Khashoggi and Shireen Abu Akleh. The two were killed under completely different circumstances, but ahead of the presidential visit, they have become, jointly, a symbol of the lack of international consequences for attacking the press and journalists.

“At a time when attacks on press freedom are at an all-time high, your visit will… send a message to autocrats all over the world that they can imprison, torture or even murder journalists with no repercussions,” Hatic Cengiz, Khashoggi’s fiancee, wrote to Biden in an open letter in the Washington Post. Abu Akleh’s family also sent a letter to Biden, in which they asked to meet with him during his visit. The family, the letter said, feels “a sense of betrayal concerning your administration’s abject response to the extrajudicial killing of our sister and aunt by Israeli forces.”

In the Saudi case, most Israelis can understand why Khashoggi became a symbol (ignoring the claims of involvement by the Israeli company NSO in the murder). Most Israelis would be infuriated at any attempt to equate his case with that of Abu Akleh. But although the cases are completely different, there is one fact that is hard to argue with: Despite the extensive findings, of the Americans as well, by which it is “most likely” that the military was indeed responsible for shooting Abu Akleh, Israel so far has not accepted any real responsibility. No one has been interrogated, no one has been punished and no clear lessons have been drawn for the future. In this sense, Israel has single-handedly turned Abu Akleh into a symbol by its continued insistence on abdicating responsibility for the affair.

There is hardly a report in the American coverage of Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia that does not mention his election promise to make the kingdom a “pariah” following the Khashoggi’s murder. Articles are also proliferating that connect Abu Akleh’s killing to a test of protection of freedom of the press, which Biden will face on his trip. These reports insist on noting that the context of the American change of policy toward Saudi Arabia is the fuel crisis in the United States. Put another way, there is clear tension between the democratic-liberal values in the name of which Biden ran for president, and on which the United States’ self-image is largely based, and national, as well as personal interests, that now oblige him to solve the energy crisis.

Israel’s part in these analyses on the tension between values and foreign relations is absent in ways far beyond the Abu Akleh affair. For example, the United States is marketing Biden’s trip as if it is intended to promote normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Advancing peace in the Middle East sounds like a better, more liberal democratic reason to traffic in principles like freedom of the press. But is this really the reason for the visit? There is no doubt that gas prices trouble the United States much more than Israeli-Saudi relations. Secondly, all parties acknowledge that there will be no festive peace agreement but rather public revelation of high-tech security cooperation, which already exists behind the scenes.

And although they make fewer headlines – partly because of censorship restrictions – these high-tech security agreements, such as the alleged Saudi purchase of Israeli capabilities like Pegasus – have a critical role in the breach of liberal values. And so it is not exactly a warm peace in exchange for diverting attention from attacks on the press. And just a reminder, this whole show is just to fight Russia in the name of these values. It would have been far better for them to admit that this is the true price of gasoline.

" '42 Knees in One Day': Israeli Snipers Open Up About Shooting Gaza Protesters"

"Over 200 Palestinians were killed and nearly 8,000 were injured during almost two years of weekly protests at the Israel-Gaza border. Israeli army snipers tell their stories."

Om dette har 972.mag en vurdering 25. november 2020:

"Gaza’s Great Return March: 234 killed, 17 investigations, one indictment"
"Two years after Israeli soldiers killed more than 200 Palestinians during Gaza's Great Return March, the IDF has done little more than whitewash its own violence."

Utdrag fra artikkel i 972.mag:
"After the Supreme Court Praised the Open-Fire Policy, the Military Admits: We killed Protestors for No Reason"

"Israel’s unlawful open-fire policy during the demonstrations along the Gaza perimeter fence – which were upheld by the Supreme Court – have so far resulted in hundreds of Palestinian deaths and thousands of injuries. Official sources now admit that they were well aware that people were being killed when even the State did not claim that this is justified. Despite this, no-one has taken action to amend the open-fire regulations. Instead, the military continued with its trial-and-error approach."

The military has now decided to change the open-fire regulations for snipers “after it emerged that firing at the lower limbs above the knee led, in most cases, to death, despite the fact that this was not the objective. Going forward, soldiers have been briefed to shoot below the knee and then at the ankle.” A senior officer at the military’s Counter-Terrorism School stated that the snipers’ objective “is not to kill but to injure, and accordingly one of the lessons learned related to the direction toward which they fire… At first, we told them to shoot at the leg. We saw that this can result in fatalities, so we told them to shoot below the knee, then we fine-tuned the regulations to shooting at the ankle.”

..............................

Republikanerne i Texas vedtar: Ingen palestinsk stat

Jerusalem Post 22. juni 2022:

"Controversial Texas GOP platform would ‘prohibit’ Palestinian state"

"The Texas Republican Party approved a platform that supports the “prohibition” of a Palestinian state in lands that Israel now controls.

The platform approved by 5,100 delegates in Houston on Saturday supports the “prohibition of a Palestinian state within the historical borders of Israel, as it would jeopardize Israel’s security and it would force Israel to give up land that God gave to the Jewish people as referenced in Genesis.”

.................

Her ser man ekstrem kristensionisme på sitt verste.
Religion og politikk hører ikke sammen.

India knebler pressefriheten i Kashmir

1) The Guardian 6. februar 2022:
India under Modi's ledelse fortsetter å kneble pressefriheten i Kashmir:
"Editor arrested in Kashmir as press crackdown escalates"

2) The Guardian 3. juli 2022
"India bars Pulitzer-winning Kashmiri photojournalist from flying to France"

Lovforslaget vil overstyre EU-avtalen.

Reaksjonene uteblir ikke:

"Germany and Ireland denounce Boris Johnson’s bid to ditch Northern Ireland protocol "
"Rare joint declaration indicates hardening of EU position on plans that more than 70 Tory MPs failed to vote for"
(The Guardian 3. juli 2022, se Kilde)

"Israelis Are Funding Terrorism"

Israelis Are Funding Terrorism

Honenu has issued over 20 press releases since last Wednesday, in the wake of the arrest of a Jewish man from Ariel on suspicion of murdering a Palestinian man in a clash between settlers and Palestinians the day before. In its steady flood of announcements, the right-wing legal aid organization depicts the suspect – who was arrested by the Shin Bet security service and is being represented by Honenu – as having been “saved from lynching,” a recurrent phrase in its press releases, and as being tortured by the Shin Bet under interrogation.

This brainwashing was so successful that a few hundred people, nearly all of them from the mainstream of the Jewish settlement movement in the West Bank, demonstrated outside the Ariel police station Saturday night to support the suspect. The protest was titled “Jews are attacked in a lynching and find themselves tortured in the Shin Bet’s cellars.” And on Tuesday, a group of religious Zionist rabbis, including some considered moderate, issued a statement urging the authorities to “release the suspect immediately and unconditionally!” A reminder: This is a man who is suspected of stabbing another man to death. Would they protest this way on behalf of a drug dealer who murdered a rival?

This is an escalation of Honenu’s activity. The organization is a registered nonprofit whose goals, as stated on GuideStar’s Israeli, Hebrew-language website, include “encouraging employers to give preference to Israeli military veterans.” If you’ve ever encountered any activity by the organization in this field, please call NASA’s new UFO search team. Its main, if not sole, activity, is defending (Jewish) terrorists and fighting the Shin Bet and its tactics (when they’re used against Jews). And while it isn’t a newcomer to the media, it hasn’t previously engaged with it this extensively, intensively and effectively.

Honenu marked its 20th anniversary this year. According to GuideStar, its volume in 2020 was 4.6 million shekels ($1.3 million); foreign sources accounted for 670,000 shekels (most of it from a single donor who wasn’t identified in the organization’s annual report).

Honenu is authorized to receive tax-deductible donations under Article 46 of the tax code, which means the state – that is, we – are indirectly funding its activities. These activities are now being reviewed by the Registrar of Associations, because Honenu’s certification of compliance with the registrar’s rules of proper administration has lapsed. In the past three months, the registrar has informed it no fewer than five times – the latest just this week – that it hasn’t yet submitted all the documents necessary for its request for recertification to be considered.

Donations from the United States are made via the Central Israel Fund, a charitable organization that has already starred in several investigations here. Contributions to that organization are tax-deductible in America, though it seems unlikely that defending ultra-nationalist settlers meets IRS requirements. It generally allows tax-deductible donations only to organizations engaged in social-welfare activity, while coming down hard on “charities” that provide assistance and money to terrorists.

And we should call a spade a spade – the defendants Honenu represents are terrorists, from members of the Bat Ayin underground through Yitzhak Pass to Jack Tytell (in contrast, the man arrested last week is still only suspected of murder, but if he is convicted and is proved to have committed the murder out of nationalist motives, he will be considered a terrorist). And by indirectly funding Honenu’s activity, Israel is expressing support for its actions.

Honenu’s Hebrew-language website says the following: “We also look at the background and the motives. We understand the mindset of someone who, moved by the harm done to the Jewish people, crossed the line and, in his warmheartedness, took action against the desecration of the Jewish people’s national honor. And we think he deserves to receive all his rights.”

Desecrating our national honor? Would we still fund it if those words were written in Arabic?
