- En kollektiv moralsk svikt om "krigens rett"

Innlegg i The Guardian 14.oktober 2023 av Simon Tisdall:
"Angry old men set the Middle East ablaze. The young will pay the price"

"Underlying all this is another basic failure – the collective moral failure of the “international community” to enforce the laws of war, prevent collective punishments, respect the lives of civilians in conflict zones and abide by the UN charter and human rights treaties. It’s happening again in Gaza."

- "This Is How Israel Really Silences Palestinian Human Rights Advocates"

Artikkel i Haaretz 21. mai av Nathaniel Berman:

"This Is How Israel Really Silences Palestinian Human Rights Advocates"
"Ever since 1967, Israeli governments have effectively admitted that violating international law is essential to maintaining the occupation and violating Palestinians' human rights. And they try and silence criticism by using a kind of very effective intellectual blackmail."

(HELE artikkelen nederst under Kilde):

"Israel Sees Palestinian Human Rights Groups as Terrorist Organizations"

Når humanitær virksomhet blir "terror" ...
Når diplomatisk virksomhet blir "terror" ...
Når juridisk virksomhet blir "terror" ...

HELE artikkelen i Haaretz:

Israel Sees Palestinian Human Rights Groups as Terrorist Organizations

Among the myriad problems in the security cabinet’s decision to “punish” the Palestinians for their diplomatic efforts to fight the occupation was one particularly dangerous and harsh element. Part 5 of the summary of the cabinet’s decision states: “Actions will be taken against organizations in Judea and Samaria that promote terror activities or any hostile activity, including diplomatic-judicial action against Israel in the guise of humanitarian activities.”

The significance of this decision is an official declaration of war on all Palestinian civil society groups fighting the Israeli occupation by peaceful means. No more legal squirming to find shaky evidence connecting Palestinian human rights groups to terror, as former Defense Minister Benny Gantz did with regard to the seven organizations that he recently outlawed in a decision that many countries still consider strange.

Instead of bothering to invent such indirect connections, the Israeli government simply declares in black and white that as far as it is concerned, all diplomatic and judicial action, that is, non-violent opposition, is fundamentally “hostile” and in the same bracket as terrorism.

In other words, to the Israel of today, Palestinian diplomatic activity is diplomatic terror, Palestinian court appeals are judicial terror, pro-Palestinian boycotts of goods are economic terror, a Palestinian demonstration is terror against public order, and a Palestinian protest song is musical incitement to terror.

Of course, the same goes for Palestinian democratic opposition at the ballot box. From Israel’s perspective, this is demographic terror. As playwright Hanoch Levin put it in “Security Instructions in the Occupied Territories”: “A man walking down the street glancing nervously from side to side and over his shoulder shall be suspected of being an Arab terrorist; a man walking down the street and looking calmly ahead of him shall be suspected of being a level-headed Arab terrorist.”

According to Israel, the Palestinian people have no legitimate or legal way to fight to achieve its national aspirations, because Israel isn’t really just fighting Arab terror, it is fighting the Palestinian national struggle – in any form it takes.

This decision is utterly absurd not only because it gives the same weight, legally and morally, to violent opposition and non-violent opposition (according to Israel, both are equally prohibited), but also because it empties the meaning out of the Israeli definition of terror.

When the world sees that Israel shutters Palestinian human rights groups charged with “hostile diplomatic activity” or “hostile judicial activity,” or organizations whose only sin is “humanitarian activity,” which to Israel is “in the guise of” general hostility – what will they think of the Israeli claim toward other organizations it will define as “terror organizations” over the years?

Israel erases the differences between these categories with its own two hands. In the case of the seven organizations that were recently outlawed, perhaps that was for the best. Israel is now helping the countries that donate to them belittle Israel’s definitions of terror and continue to contribute to them.

If the cabinet’s decision is to treat all Palestinian civil society groups as terror organizations (although it is not clear exactly what “actions” will be taken against them), this will be a major test for the human rights groups on the other side of the Green Line.

We need solidarity not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because the norms and practices of such persecution never stop in the territories; they always creep into Israel itself. Equating civil activities to terror will not stop with the Palestinians. It will trickle first to Palestinian organizations within Israel, and then, of course, to Jewish leftist groups.

Alon Liel: - I see our soldiers doing what the South African army used to do

Alon Liel er tidligere leder i Israels UD.
Han er fra et intervju med ham:

"Former foreign ministry chief ALON LIEL tells BEN LYNFIELD the Palestinian NGO raids reflect the government’s desire for right-wing votes and disregard for how the EU responds."

"Because he served in South Africa during the 1980s on behalf of the foreign ministry, forging Israel’s first links with anti-apartheid organisations and eventually becoming ambassador, his views are not theoretical."

"During the interview with Plus61J, Liel argued that the closure of the offices stemmed from a combination of a desire by Gantz and Prime Minister Yair Lapid to gain right-wing votes for the November 1 election and a perception by the government that there would be no serious reaction from the international community, particularly the European Union."

- Ingen bevis at palestinske menneskerettsorganisjoner er terrorister

Så sies i en grundig artikkel her:

"Secret Israeli dossier provides no proof for declaring Palestinian NGOs ‘terrorists’"
"Israel hoped a classified Shin Bet document would convince European governments to stop funding Palestinian rights groups. +972 and Local Call got hold of the dossier's testimonies — and found no real evidence to justify Israel's claims."
   (972mag 4. november 2021)

- Addameer
- Al-Haq
- Defense for Children Palestine
- Union of Agricultural Work Committees
- Bisan Center for Research and Development
- Union of Palestinian Women Committees

Amnesty International oppsummerer det slik 22.oktober:

"The Israeli Defense Ministry on 19 October 2021 issued a military order declaring six Palestinian civil society organizations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory to be “terrorist organizations.” The groups are Addameer, al-Haq, Defense for Children Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, Bisan Center for Research and Development and the Union of Palestinian Women Committees.  The designation, made pursuant to a 2016 Israeli statute, effectively outlaws the activities of these civil society groups. It authorizes Israeli authorities to close their offices, seize their assets and arrest and jail their staff members, and it prohibits funding or even publicly expressing support for their activities."

Her må UD følge med og følge opp.

Men OBS:

Men ... republikanerne styrer i Georgia.

" The new Georgia law adds strict identification requirements for voting absentee by mail, limits the use of ballot drop boxes and makes it a crime to hand out food or water to voters waiting in line, among many other provisions.
A noteworthy systems-level change gives the state’s Republican-controlled legislature new powers to dictate the composition of the board overseeing elections and to reject county results it deems suspect."
(Marketwatch 2.4.2021)

" Baseball’s midsummer All-Star Game pulled from Atlanta in protest of Georgia Republicans’ voting law" (Marketwatch 2.4.2021).

"The fight has thrust corporate America into a place it often tries to avoid — the center of a partisan political fight. But under threat of boycott and bad publicity, business leaders this week showed a fresh willingness to enter the fray on an issue not directly related to their bottom line, even when it meant alienating Republican allies" (AP 2.4.2021)

"undersecretary of State for civilian security, democracy and human rights."

"Trump Wants a Torture Proponent to Lead U.S. Human Rights Policy".

State Department to launch new human rights panel stressing 'natural law'
The Trump administration plans to launch a new panel to offer "fresh thinking” on international human rights and “natural law,” a move some activists fear is aimed at narrowing protections for women and members of the LGBT community.
The new body, to be called the Commission on Unalienable Rights, will advise Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, according to a notice the State Department quietly published Thursday on the Federal Register.
