Israelsk avis: Om Israels bidrag i Nagorno-Karabach - Og i Myanmar

Her er overskriften (hele artikklen mnederst under Kilde):

"Israel's Fingerprints Are All Over the Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh"

Israel's Fingerprints Are All Over the Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Armenians fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh en masse still remember the first years after the Soviet Union fell apart, when their community suffered war and mass slaughter. But they also remember the more distant history of the genocide perpetrated against their countrymen by the Ottoman Empire. Consequently, they are rightly unwilling to rely on the mercy of the Azeri security services, who in recent years haven’t hesitated to attack Armenian civilians and civilian targets and commit war crimes in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Starting in the second decade of the 21st century, Israel has been helping Azerbaijan commit war crimes and defeat the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. Israel has a strategic relationship with the Azeris that includes arms deals worth billions of dollars, stemming from both Israel’s war against Iran and the fact that it buys a significant portion of the oil it needs from Azerbaijan.

In the past, security ties between the two countries remained discreet. But in recent years, Azerbaijan has proudly displayed advanced Israeli weaponry, including missiles and suicide drones, in its military parades. It has also revealed that a factory that produces Israeli suicide drones exists on Azeri soil, and it has once again released official videos in which its forces are seen using Israeli weapons.

On March 6, Haaretz reported that over the past seven years, 92 Azeri cargo planes landed at the Ovda airbase – the only airfield from which explosives can be exported. In addition, an Israeli suicide drone has been documented attacking an antitank battery in Armenia itself (Haaretz, March 15, 2021). Haaretz also reported that Azeri journalists and opposition activists have been targeted for surveillance with NSO’s Pegasus spyware (May 25, 2023).

Throughout this period, Israel hasn’t just supplied Azerbaijan with arms. It has also helped it distort history. During legal proceedings in 2020, the Foreign Ministry admitted that Israel’s refusal to recognize the Armenian genocide – which it defines merely as a “tragedy” – stems in part from its relationship with the Azeri government. At the same time, Israel is also assisting Azerbaijan’s campaign for international recognition of the “Khojaly genocide,” which the Armenians allegedly perpetrated against the Azeris. Admittedly, there are conflicting stories about what happened in the battle of Khojaly during the first Nagorno-Karabakh war of 1992. But there’s one thing the international community agrees on regarding this issue – no genocide took place there, according to the accepted definition of the term.

What is happening in Nagorno-Karabakh isn’t the first case of ethnic cleansing that has Israel’s fingerprints on it. The persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar and the Muslims during the Bosnian War are just two examples out of many. Israel ought to have from the Jewish people’s own history that when you mix massive amounts of weaponry with a distortion of history, it’s a recipe for disaster.

The above article is Haaretz’s lead editorial, as published in the Hebrew and English newspapers in Israel.

"Good Luck in Your Genocide Trial"
"For years Israel secretly authorized weapon sales to Myanmar, even after the accusations of mass slaughter, rapes and the burning of Rohingya villages become known and after a European Union arms embargo and U.S. sanctions on the country."

"Israel Sold Advanced Weapons to Myanmar During anti-Rohingya Ethnic Cleansing Campaign"
"Israeli-made navy patrol boats custom-fitted with remote weapon stations are part of arms deals estimated to be worth tens of millions."

Opinion |
"How Israel’s Supreme Court Rubber Stamps Arms Deals to Dictators"
"The Supreme Court is hardly a defender of human rights abroad when it helps repress democracy by using gag orders to obscure the truth about Israeli arms deals to brutal regimes including Myanmar during and after the Rohingya genocide. It’s time Israel’s people protest this too."

Her følger to av hans artikler:

 6. oktober 2022:
"Israel Saw Brutal Myanmar Regimes as a Business Opportunity, Documents Reveal"

"Newly declassified documents show how Israel armed, trained and for decades built up successive military regimes in Myanmar. A murderous civil war? Torture? Massacre? For Israel, it’s fertile ground for cooperation"

23. april 2021:
"Myanmar’s genocidal military is still a friend to Israel"

"Public pressure has forced Israel to halt arms sales to the brutal military junta, but the state’s political support remains strong." (972 magazine)

"Israel, Myanmar Sign Education Pact for Programs About 'Holocaust and Its Lessons' and Xenophobia"
"Accord with country accused of ethnic cleansing will allow each side to edit how it is depicted in the other's textbooks" (Haaretz 29. mai 2018)

EDIT
27. oktober 2022
Ny artikkel, av Oded Yaron:
"Broker for Israeli Arms to Myanmar Arrested in Thailand for Drug Dealing, Money Laundering"

"Documents reveal that a corporation implicated in corruption, served as a middleman between IAI, Elbit, and Israel Shipyards and Myanmar's brutal junta, despite international sanctions over the Rohingya genocide."

EDIT 2
5. september 2023
Ny artikkle av Oded Yaron:
"Revealed |Israel Sold Arms to Myanmar Even After the 2021 Military Coup

"Shipping records show Israel Aerospace Industries and Elbit Systems arming Myanmar’s junta, which bombs civilian targets in the country"

Facebook satser på nye brukere ...bl.a. i AFRIKA.

Detailed rules known as “community standards,” which bar users from posting offensive material including hate speech and celebrations of violence, were translated in only 41 languages out of the 111 supported as of early March, Reuters found.

A Reuters report found last year that hate speech on Facebook that helped foster ethnic cleansing in Myanmar went unchecked in part because the company was slow to add moderation tools and staff for the local language.

At least 652 million people worldwide speak languages supported by Facebook but where rules are not translated, according to data from language encyclopedia Ethnologue. Another 230 million or more speak one of the 31 languages that do not have official support.

Simultaneously, Facebook is partnering with wireless carriers and other groups to expand internet access in countries including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo where it has yet to officially support widely-used languages such as Luganda and Kituba. Asked this week about the expansions without language support, Facebook declined to comment.

Posts in Amharic reviewed by Reuters this month attacked the Oromo and Tigray ethnic populations in vicious terms that clearly violated Facebook’s ban on discussing ethnic groups using “violent or dehumanizing speech, statements of inferiority, or calls for exclusion.”
Facebook removed the two posts Reuters inquired about. The company added that it had erred in allowing one of them, from December 2017, to remain online following an earlier user report.

Facebook-owned Instagram said its 1,179-word community guidelines are in 30 out of 51 languages offered to users. WhatsApp, owned by Facebook as well, has terms in nine of 58 supported languages, Reuters found.
Alphabet Inc’s YouTube presents community guidelines in 40 of 80 available languages, Reuters found. Twitter Inc’s rules are in 37 of 47 supported languages, and Snap Inc’s in 13 out of 21.
