Israeli Army Chief Discharges Ex-top Prosecutor Amid Leak Investigation
The former military advocate general's investigation centers on suspicions that she and other senior military legal officials had illegally leaked a video showing five prison guards abusing a Palestinian detainee from Gaza at the Sde Teiman detention center
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir decided to remove former Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi from service "without further delay" because of the ongoing criminal investigation against her, according to the military. The army said Zamir was also considering demoting her pending the outcome of the case.
Tomer-Yerushalmi stuck to her claim in the investigation that sharing the video with the media does not constitute a prohibited leak under the law. According to her, she was entitled to pass the video to the media, seeing as she was the highest-ranking officer in the Military Advocate General's Office. She also told investigators that she leaked the video to fend off an "improper and false campaign of delegitimization" against the unit and its personnel.
