"Top Israeli Rabbi Pushes to Release Extremist Who Killed Palestinian Family
Rabbi
Tzvi Kostiner called Israeli authorities to release Amiram Ben Uliel
who was sentenced to three life sentences plus 17 years in prison for
attempted murder and additional 10 years for arson for killing the
Dawabsheh family
One of Israel's most prominent national-religious rabbis called last Thursday for the release of an Israeli convicted in a 2015 firebombing attack that killed three members of a Palestinian family in the West Bank, calling his incarceration a "great injustice."
Rabbi Tzvi Kostiner, dean of the Hesder yeshiva program that combines Talmudic studies with military service, denounced what he characterized as a miscarriage of justice at a gathering in support of Amiram Ben Uliel last week at his yeshiva in southern Israel. He called authorities to "release him totally, a complete amnesty," and protested against Ben Uliel being held in solitary confinement."1.september 2023:

Rabbi Lau:
"The final straw was a public letter signed by 250 Orthodox rabbis
– among them, a fair number deemed moderates – demanding a sweeter
prison deal for the convicted murderer of a Palestinian baby and his
parents. These rabbis were calling on the government to move Amiram Ben Uliel,
who was convicted in the firebombing of the Dawabsheh family home in
July 2015, to a special prison ward reserved for religious Jews. As
justification for their demand, they suggested in their letter that Ben
Uliel had been wrongly convicted. "

Rabbi Lau:
“Once upon a time, years ago, there was a thick and clear wall of
separation between religious Zionism and supporters of Jewish
terrorism,” he bemoaned. “The wall of separation between racist
nationalism and religious Zionism collapsed, but unfortunately another
wall was built in its place, which separates the religious-national
public from the State of Israel and its institutions.”
